Client Interview tips

  • The best way to ensure you as an employer get the most out of an interview is to thoroughly prepare. Know what you want and prepare questions accordingly
  • Start the interview on the right foot. Remember interviews are nerve-racking for candidates so put them at ease as much as possible. The more relaxed they are, the more forthcoming they will become with information
  • If you are having difficulty getting a Candidate to open up, ask some easy questions. Get them talking by asking open questions such as "How did you approach this task" or "How did you overcome this difficulty".
  • If you feel a Candidate is exaggerating their level of experience, ask some targeted follow up questions. An example might be "What was the main objective of this project and how did you achieve this?"
  • Remember, most Candidates' are judging your organization as much as you are judging them. Therefore, knowing your company benefits and being able to articulate them is vital.
  • If your company offers health insurance or gym membership or beers on a Friday afternoon for all staff, relay this information onto the Candidate.
  • Close the interview off properly. Do not leave Candidates wondering what the next step is. Outline the way forward and give them an expectation of time. It may be that you commit to phoning the Candidate in two days time, or alternatively you will pass on feedback to your STRATACON Recruitment Consultant and will do so by the end of that day.
  • Finally, remember your STRATACON Recruitment Consultant is there to assist and ensure they can help in any way possible, to make the process efficient and effective. If you need more information, more reference checks or anything else to help understand the Candidate better, ask and we will provide.
